The Notification No.S.O.857(E) dated 10.12.1997, issued under the provisions of Industrial (Development & Regulation) Act 1951 by the Government of India, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), specified the basis on which an industrial undertaking was regarded as a Small Scale or an ancillary Industrial undertaking. This, inter alia,provided the basis on which a Small Scale or an ancillary Industrial undertaking was considered as a subsidiary of or owned or controlled by any other industrial undertaking (i.e, clubbing of investments of various small scale Industrial undertakings for the purpose of classification of Small Scale or ancillary Industrial undertakings and restricting equity participation by non-SSI industrial undertaking in Small Scale or ancillary Industrial undertakings to 24%).
